Lulu is currently obsessed with drinking out of the "big kid" cup. I'm encouraging her and happy she wants to. The sooner I can stop washing all the extra drinking gear, the better.
Ever see a toddler learn to drink from a cup? It's messy and looks like one of three things: a teenager sloppily French kissing -- imagine a roving tongue all over the inside of a cup, a dog lapping up water with a very short tongue, or a drunken sailor cocking back his head doing shots. It's like this every time, but with experience, Lulu's slowly figuring it out.
I was told to start with kefir or a yogurt-milk combo in a glass so that Lulu could see the "slower liquid" come towards her as she tilted the cup. This was super messy and I didn't stick with this suggestion too long (plus Lulu's not a fan of sweet drinks yet). I fill her cup with half an inch of water* since anything more ends up on the floor from banging and waving the cup in the air. If your child's ready for cup-drinking, expect to change shirts often or practice shirtless. I can't tell you how many times Lulu just dumped the water down her front -- it was fun!
Hitting another milestone is just as exciting as the last. Bottoms up Lulu, here's to more dining skills.
*Water is easier to clean up than milk or juice.
